Position Summary


The Product Management Director runs an assigned portfolio of supplier partnerships as a business owner -accountable for its strategy, growth, and commercial performance. This leader sets pricing, directs growth investments, and builds the executive-level supplier relationships that define how Cathedral shows up in the market. They translate market intelligence into action - turning data into pricing moves, supplier conversations into joint growth plans, and customer signals into commercial advantage.


The role demands fluency across Sales, Operations, and Finance, the analytical rigor to make decisions stick, and the influence and executive presence to lead through partners rather than positional authority. The Product Management Director reports to the Vice President of Product Management and Marketing.


 


Core Responsibilities

  • Run the portfolio as a business owner. Build and execute the multi-year strategy for an assigned supplier portfolio in close partnership with the General Manager - setting revenue and margin targets, sequencing growth investments, and operational the scorecards and KPIs that hold both Cathedral and its suppliers accountable. Use rigorous analysis of demand signals, win/loss data, and margin performance to direct where Cathedral plays and how it wins, and partner across Sales, Operations, and Finance to convert that strategy into execution.

  • Architect pricing and value capture. Set and steward the pricing strategy that maximizes value for both the supplier and Cathedral. Move the organization from cost-plus toward value-based pricing, monitor competitive and feedstock dynamics, and lead pricing actions that protect margin without compromising customer trust. Build the discipline, tools, and cadence that make price stewardship a sustained capability

  • Serve as Cathedral’s senior face to the supplier base. Develop principal-to-principal relationships with supplier executives that translate into joint growth. Lead business reviews, custom analytics, and on-site engagements that elevate Cathedral from transactional partner to strategic advisor. Embody Cathedral’s culture, purpose, and values in every interaction, internal and external.

  • Translate market signals into advantage. Develop a current, ground-truth view of personal care formulation trends, end-market shifts, regulatory direction, and competitor moves. Convert that intelligence into actionable plans for Sales, Marketing, and our supplier base, and into the commercial narratives Cathedral takes to customers.

  • Raise the bar across the commercial organization. Contribute to broader commercial strategy, partner on supplier-acquisition and business development evaluations, and help build the muscle and tools of Cathedral’s product management function. Coach and develop teammates on category dynamics, pricing discipline, and strategic supplier engagement.


 


Key Qualifications & Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive specialty chemical experience across product management, business development, supplier management, or category management. Personal care chemistry strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated record of owning a portfolio P&L (or its equivalent) - setting strategy, delivering against growth and margin targets, and earning the trust of senior internal and external stakeholders.

  • Operates as a business owner. Fluent across the Sales, Operations, and Financial levers of the portfolio, and equally comfortable in a P&L review, a customer technical conversation, and a supplier negotiation.

  • Sophisticated commercial analytics: comfortable building and interrogating models, translating data into decisions, and using market intelligence to drive pricing and investment choices.

  • Mastery of pricing strategy in a distribution context - value-based pricing, margin management through cycles, and disciplined price stewardship.

  • Influence-led leader who works with, not around, peers; able to build alignment across functions and drive outcomes without relying on positional authority.

  • Executive presence and credibility with senior internal and external audiences; able to lead the room in a supplier C-suite review or an internal pricing committee.

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, business, or related field, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% across North America, with selective international travel.
